This portion of the CanSkate Program will continue to develop skaters through their stage 4-6 Badges. It will help to provide kids with the best foundation possible by having them complete a series of balance, control and agility skills needed to excel in any on-ice sport. This is the learn-to-skate program for advanced CanSkaters of all ages and is tailored to each user-group. Participants will continue to earn ribbons and badges while they learn fundamental skating skills. The Pre-Star Program is the feeder program to all other Skate Canada Skating Programs including CanPowerSkate, StarSkate and CompetitiveSkate. Participants are taught in a group lesson format by NCCP Certified Professional Coaches trained specifically in teaching the mechanics and proper technique of skating. One of the key delivery standards of the CanSkate program is to ensure that participants have a 90% movement rate so that skaters can learn in an active and fun group setting with a 1:10 coach to skater ratio. The Pre-Star program consists of both on-ice and off-ice portions to ensure that skaters are being fully developed (participation in both portions is mandatory). It is recommended that skaters participate in the full 2 day membership to achieve the best development.
All skaters are required to wear a helmet unless otherwise instructed as per Skate Canada’s Helmet Policy. Read here for details.
