When skaters at the Fort William Figure Skating Club participate in the Junior STARSkate Program, they begin working on levels within the Skate Canada STARSkate program.
Skills, Tests, Achievement, Recognition is what the STARSkate program stands for. The Skate Canada STARSkate program offers opportunities for skaters to develop basic figure skating skills in four different areas with the option of taking Skate Canada Tests while earning awards and incentives designed for this group of skaters. Figure skating skills are taught by a professional coach of the skater’s choice in group and/or private lesson format in the following areas: Interpretive, Dance, Free Skating, and Skating Skills. These disciplines are also divided into Primary, Intermediate and Senior.
The skaters in the Junior STARSkate Program at the Fort William Figure Skating Club are working on their Primary and Intermediate tests. Once passed the Junior Bronze Free Skating Test, the skater is considered an Intermediate.
Benefits of Participating in the STARSkate Program
Skaters enrolled in the STARSkate Program have an opportunity to achieve personal growth and development by participating in a high quality program that teaches the fundamentals of figure skating in a progressive and sequential manner. This program is unique in Canada. In addition to the benefits outlined above, participants in the Skate Canada STARSkate program can receive:
- opportunities to be recognized through a nationally standardized testing system for achieving specific figure skating skills
- access to invitational and Interclub competitions
- opportunities to participate in local and provincial competitions

Our Club has an Affiliation Fee of $200 for all SkarSkate members (Star2-4, Star 5 to Gold/Competitive Skaters) and $100 for all Pre-Star (Pre-Junior) Members. As Bingos are one of our major contributors to our ice fees, over half of our ice fees are paid through our Bingo program. Our Affiliation fee consists of a separate cheque made payable to the FWFSC given at the time of registration. This cheque allows for the parent or guardian to either work a minimum of two bingos or to have their cheque cashed by the club at the end of the skating season. Please contact our Bingo Chair for more information firstname.lastname@example.org .
Please note in regards to Bingos:
i) Before you work a bingo, you must attend the bingo training provided by OLG. The training is a presentation done by an OLG employee.
ii) All club members will be emailed one week in advance of each scheduled bingo with the names of the volunteers scheduled to work. If a volunteer has a conflict, it is the responsibility of the volunteer to notify one of the Bingo Co-Chairs by email immediately.
iii) Bingo volunteers are required to provide 24-48 hours notice if they are unable to work their scheduled bingo. If the volunteer does not notify one of the Bingo Co-Chairs by email 24-48 hours in advance, a $50.00 fine will be applied.
iv) All bingo volunteers must be over the age of 18 as the bingo hall is run by OLG and no one under the age of 18 years old is permitted in the building.
